Portable Power Units for Oil Wells in Peru

One of our latest projects related to this portable range was carried out in Peru and consisted of supplying backup power to several oil wells, all of them located in areas that are very difficult to access – like most of the fields in this country. In these cases, mobile generator sets are the best alternative.

Oil wells are large infrastructures built to enable a channel or communication route between the surface and the reservoir where the hydrocarbon is, in the earth’s bowels. Once the well is erected, the oil extraction can take several months so these installations require electricity supply for long periods of time. In addition, its energy demand is considerable, this added to the fact that many of them are located in areas with poor connections, so generator sets become essential elements.

In the case of the project carried out in Peru, at Genesal Energy we took advantage of the fact that our team perfectly knows the characteristics of the country, since one of the subsidiaries of the company has been based in Lima for 10 years now. Our client needed a mobile generator to operate in several oil wells located in different parts of the country – in Peru, oil wells can be found in the northwestern coast, the continental base and the jungle. Therefore, generator sets must be easily transported by helicopters, in a way that it is possible to take them from one oil facility to another in the shortest time and with the possibility of changing the operating voltage.

After analyzing such circumstances, the generator set was designed to respond to these needs, with extreme reliability to start almost instantaneously and with the maximum safety and firefighting measures.

Thus, we manufactured a custom-made, multi-voltage Generator with an automatic switch panel to carry out a very simple change of the operation voltage without the need to disassemble mechanical components. Weight was also a key issue during the design and manufacturing process, as the genset had to be easily transportable – which is a main feature of mobile sets. The maximum weight, including the aluminum canopy, was set at 3500 kilograms so we had to design a solution as light as possible. A cable reel was also supplied. It was manufactured with a special reinforced steel coil to reduce the total weight and all the materials met the requirement of being transportable.
