Customized emergency genset for a Data Center in Gran Canaria

The constant growth of the Data Center sector caused by the unstoppable digital transformation of companies and administrations has a direct consequence in the field of distributed energy, as the demand for generator sets to be installed in this kind of facilities is growing as well. Moreover, these generator sets are very different from the rest of the emergency generators.

The electricity supply in Data Centers must be extremely safe and continuous since a mains failure, even if it is only for a few seconds, may cause the loss of the data stored in the installation and, which would imply serious economic and reputational losses. The more sensitive the information stored in a Data Center, the more reliable its emergency equipment must be, hence the importance of taking care of every detail in the manufacturing, start-up and maintenance processes.

At Genesal Energy we have extensive experience in the design of this backup energy that has many particularities. One of them is that the equipment destined to cover a CPD must comply with a specific regulation, which is established by the Uptime Institute, the international organization in charge of certifying how these facilities have to be designed so that nothing fails.

One of latest projects in the Data Center or Data Processing Center (CPD) sector, has been carried out for a Data Center in the Canary Islands, specifically in Gran Canaria.

  • WHERE:

SPAIN (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria)

  • CUSTOMER’S NEED:

A generator set with a high level of soundproofing, adapted to an existing installation.

TURNKEY PROJECT

The client needed to replace the existing generator set in the CPD for a more efficient, modern and powerful one. After analyzing the place and the conditions where the new equipment should work, our team decided to design an ultra-compact generator set. It had to fit the installation like a glove.

After analyzing the location, we opted for an integrated solution in the room. The equipment, in addition to being soundproofed, was equipped with air inlet and outlet attenuators in the room to guarantee an optimal acoustic level. “This is important especially in facilities that are located within the urban area, where a low noise level is required by municipal regulations, to ensure the rest of the neighbors, especially at night,” says one of our engineers.

The project carried out for the CPD of Gran Canaria was turnkey, which means that at Genesal Energy we took on the entire process, from preliminary project planning, to manufacturing, delivery and installation of the generator set, as well as removing the existing one.

FEATURES

  • Generator set mounted on a soundproof canopy adapted to the installation, including a 700 L base frame integrated fuel tank with an autonomy of 7,8 hours at 100% load.

  • The generator set included attenuators of -30 dB(A) both at the air inlet and outlet
  • Special paint against corrosive environments.
