Stage V generator sets

Clean energy enters a new phase

Stage V generator sets

We provide you with reliable and efficient generator sets that comply with the EU Stage V emissions reduction regulations. We develop the latest technology for cleaner energy.

Versatile, efficient, and sustainable

New technology adapted to your needs and those of the environment

In compliance with the emissions regulation, the Stage V engine range incorporates the most advanced technology to provide cleaner and fully reliable energy. This work is carried out from our Distributed Energy Technology Center (CETED), the R&D+i space from which we conceive innovative and custom-designed generator sets.

What is STAGE V?

For years, the European Union has set limits on emissions of gases and particulate pollutants. With the aim of improving air quality, the European Parliament and the European Council tightened restrictions in 2016 on internal combustion engines installed in non-road mobile machinery, which also includes generator sets.

The European Emissions Regulation for Machinery (NRMM) 2016/1628/EC or Stage V regulation, came into effect on January 1, 2019, requiring the implementation of an appropriate exhaust gas after-treatment strategy to control and measure engine emissions.

What is STAGE V?

Stage V Rental

Our range of Stage V rental generator sets ensures robustness, reliability, great autonomy, and ease of operation and maintenance, integrating all the necessary elements to comply with current emission regulations. All assembled in a compact, highly soundproofed body with a skid-type base, specially designed for the harsh working conditions on site.

Multiple plug configurations are available to adapt the power output to the needs of each project, fully integrated into the casing with differential and thermal-magnetic protection.

Features

  • Different mobility options, drag skids, lifting hooks, or via forklift.
  • Easy access to the exhaust gas after-treatment system for maintenance, including: EGR, DPF, DOC, SCR, and urea injection, depending on the engine manufacturer and power.
  • External socket panel protected against impacts, with IP67, protections, and the possibility of various configurations on demand. Low pollutant emissions and reduced fuel consumption.
  • Standard control panel with manual start and optionally configurable in automatic mode (in case of a grid failure).
  • Optional control panel for parallel operation with another set or with the electrical grid.
  • The control unit has a display screen for group and grid parameters, recording incidents that occurred (up to 350 events).
  • Arrangement of air inlets and outlets to minimize noise.
  • Multiple options: fuel transfer pump, group color different from standard, interior lighting, work-type or road-approved trailer, removable doors…
  • Low emissions, according to Stage V regulations.
  • After-treatment systems integrated into the cabin with easy access for maintenance.
  • Urea and fuel tanks integrated into the base.
  • Liquid collection tray.
  • Versatility: variety of optional equipment, including the possibility of operating automatically or in parallel.

What characterizes STAGE V equipment?

Unlike generator sets exempt from complying with the regulations, such as emergency ones installed in a stationary manner, Stage V equipment incorporates all the necessary technical solutions to contain emission levels.

DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst)

Diesel oxidation catalyst specifically designed to reduce emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM) by converting harmful exhaust gas components into carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)

Particulate filter that retains contaminating particles present in the exhaust gases commonly known as soot.

SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)

Selective catalytic reduction process that optimizes combustion processes through the chemical reduction of nitrogen oxides (NO x) present in the exhaust gases.

EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation)

Recirculation or redirection of part of the exhaust gases in order to reduce the nitrogen oxide (NO x) content of the exhaust gases. This system is usually used in combination with DOC or DPF aftertreatment systems, thus reducing particle emissions.

Design modifications

Additionally, design modifications are required to integrate these technical solutions ensuring proper functioning. Here are some of the new requirements:

  • Ensure adequate ventilation in strategic areas.
  • Complete redesign of the exhaust gas outlet system to integrate the new systems (DOC-DPF-SCR).
  • More demanding thermal insulation to maintain exhaust gas temperatures at appropriate levels.
  • The cabin design, under the premise of a compact product that allows for economical transport, becomes more complex due to more restrictions.

Electrical area

Regarding the electrical area, the control system must maintain the combustion engine at a minimum load of approximately 25% of the nominal power so that the exhaust gas temperature is always at minimum values that allow the proper functioning of the exhaust gas aftertreatment systems. To maintain this minimum load, it is very important:

  • Install a load bank at the generator's power output. This load bank consists of electrical resistances automatically switched by the generator's control system according to the system's needs.
  • For safety, the generator must also have a controlled switch so that, in case of a failure in the exhaust gas aftertreatment system, the loads to be powered by the generator can be isolated.

To know the status of the aftertreatment system at all times, communication between the engine electronics and the generator control center must be perfect. The reason is simple: the proper operation of the entire system depends on this communication. The engine needs external data transmitted by the control center and vice versa, in this way, the engine will always operate in the correct mode to meet emission restrictions, even when the installation powering the generator does not need it, and therefore it is operating isolated.
