Guaranteed continuity: we supply two generator sets for a data centre in Norway
14 October - 2026

Data centres are the digital heart of the modern economy. Any interruption to their power supply can result in data loss, service outages and irreparable damage to cooling systems.
That is why, when a Norwegian digital infrastructure operator required a backup power solution for its facilities, it turned to Genesal Energy.
For this project, we designed, manufactured and supplied two generator sets rated at 1,650 kVA standby. These high-power units are capable of taking over the critical load immediately in the event of a mains failure.
A site with demanding technical constraints
From the outset, two key constraints shaped the design of the equipment. The first concerned access to the installation site. Its layout made the use of cranes difficult, meaning that the generator sets had to be suitable for lifting and handling with a forklift truck.
The second challenge involved thermal management. The customer required the hot air to be discharged through one side of the canopy rather than through the top or front, as is usually the case.
Neither of these requirements formed part of a standard solution, so we developed a bespoke engineering design tailored to the project’s specific needs.
Bespoke engineering to overcome every obstacle
To enable forklift handling, we fitted omega-section profiles beneath the generator sets, raising them to the height required for safe lifting and positioning. We also provided the customer with the exact location of each unit’s centre of gravity, ensuring safe and stable installation operations.
To manage the hot-air discharge, we designed and manufactured acoustically treated folded sheet-metal elements that redirect the airflow towards one side of the canopy. This enabled us to meet the ventilation requirements without compromising the acoustic performance of the equipment.
Thanks to these solutions, we delivered generator sets that were fully adapted to the installation conditions and ready to provide a reliable power supply for a critical infrastructure facility.
