Tactical power: mobile units for military applications

Genesal designed and manufactured four ISO 20ft 1CC containers, each equipped with two fully integrated generator sets, to meet a very specific requirement: to provide power wherever operations demand it, with maximum deployment speed and without compromising the robustness required in military environments.

One of the main challenges we faced in this project was arranging all the equipment inside the container. We needed to make the most of the available space without compromising accessibility or the overall functionality of the system.

We therefore positioned the control cabinet on one side of the container, providing easy access to the control and monitoring functions, and integrated all the socket outlets and Harting connectors specified by the end customer.

Missions, tactical deployments and humanitarian operations depend on a reliable source of electricity that cannot fail.

Particular attention was also paid to the configuration of the air inlets and outlets used to cool the generator sets, the integration of all auxiliary systems and the positioning of the lifting and lashing points required for transportation.

The result is a solution that facilitates operation, inspection and maintenance while delivering the robustness and operational performance required for this type of application.

One of the most distinctive aspects of this project is that all four containers are capable of operating in parallel. This functionality allows the generator sets to be synchronised to increase the available power, reaching full generation capacity through the combined operation of the four generator sets, while also allowing additional units to be incorporated in the future.

• Construction: ISO 20ft 1CC containers equipped with two 330 kVA generator sets, providing a total output per container of 660 kVA. Air inlet filters for desert environments and top air outlet.
• Fuel tank/baseframe: Double-walled 1,000 litres per generator set and 2,000 litres per container. The tanks feature leak detection, while the container is fully bunded and also fitted with a leak detection system. The tanks are equipped with heating elements to ensure reliable operation in freezing environments.
• Exhaust system: Integrated spark arrestor with an attenuation level of -30 dB silencer.
• Fuel filling system: Fuel filling points on both sides of the container, with a quick connection for filling or draining diesel using a reversible pump.
• Interconnected tanks: The tanks are interconnected, allowing the generator sets to draw fuel from both tanks.
